Installation

Two artworks, one story.

This work is based on real events: In search of dialogue and contrast between both creations, that tell the same story but from different places, inviting the viewer to reflect on our native populations of Tierra del Fuego.

El sueño del Ona

A sgraffito clay pot, sealed with fire, a hymn to its culture and a representation of their initiation rite “Hain”.
Among the Selk'nam rites, the Hain stands out. A long and complex ceremony in which the young were initiated into adulthood, subjecting them to a training process throughout the rite, they were taught the religious and mythical traditions of their people, the correct ethical behavior, and their hunting techniques.

"El Sueño del Ona”: White clay pot with a green slip, hand sgraffito. Molding made by Susana Mazzocca.

Encuentros de Tierra del Fuego

“Encuentros de Tierra del Fuego” shows the creation and fading of an illustration based on a photograph from 1889, exhibited by Selk’nam, brought to Paris by Maurice Maître in the so-called “human zoos”.
The history of the native people of each place on Earth seems to repeat itself ... Ever since we were children we heard about "conquests and colonizations", but when we became grown ups, some of us understood that we should use another word.
